# Technical Requirements

The following are the technical requirements to integrate with UPS APIs:

* Use standard HTTP operations and practices, including SSL connections [OAuth-Code flow](/api-reference/o-auth-auth-code/o-auth-auth-code/authorize-client).
* Use RESTful methodologies and design patterns.
* Use OAuth 2.0. authentication for API access.
* Design and implement a strategy for your existing software for handling errors.

*NOTE: Unable to upgrade to RESTful at this time? Please reference the Steppingstone model found in the Resources section to use OAuth with an existing SOAP/XML request.*
